Are you a dementia family?
Coach Mike at The Forge started a “Dementia In Motion” class specifically for those affected by the disease as well as their families. The next one is coming up next week (October 23rd). Just FYI these classes take place on the 4th Wednesday of every month! The Dementia In Motion class is brought to you by, of course, The Forge, but also the Alzheimers Association in Northern Colorado, as well as Right at Home In-Home Care and Assistance. These classes are an immersive 45-minute movement and balance experience specifically for Dementia families and care partners. Classes go from 10 – 11 am and take place at the Alzheimer’s Association office located at 415 Peterson in Fort Collins. All you need is a sturdy, portable chair, and a partner.

First up, Dementia on the Move
Dementia on the Move is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am-Noon at the Loveland Athletic Club, 1000 South Lincoln Ave in Loveland. This class is an immersive movement and balance experience for Dementia families and care partners. Up next, Caregiver on the Move
This class is designed to help service agencies take care of their “most valuable players.” This is a great way to learn how to help your patients who have Dementia, or family members you may be caring for.
Last but not least, 1-on-1 In-Home and Small Group Personal Training

So why is this important?
Well, there are only three months left in this decade, and that is CRAZY to think about! If you have been thinking about getting in better shape or getting up and active now is the time!
Here are some facts from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention about aging and activity:
- “The loss of strength and stamina attributed to aging is in part caused by reduced physical activity.”
- “Inactivity increases with age. By age 75, about one in three men and one in tow women engage in no physical activity.”
- “Among adults aged 65 years and older, walking and gardening or yard work are, by far, the most popular physical activities.”
- “Social support from family and friends has been consistently and positively related to regular physical activity.”
At LIV Health, we work with many people and families affected by Dementia, and many other things, but staying active is a great way one, keep your mind engaged and socialize, and two get up and moving to try to combat these diseases. We’re here for you, and we would be happy to get you set up with any of the classes mentioned above and any other activities you would like to get involved in.
