Drug adherence packaging? What is that?

There are many different types of drug adherence packaging, some look like the images above.

No matter what the packaging looks like, drug adherence packaging is used to help make the task of taking medications easier!

What’s the big deal with not taking my medications?

Medication non-adherence, or not taking medications, is a growing problem and an important factor in rising health care costs as well as patient outcomes. Northstar Pharmacy and Infusion can help! More than half of Americans have at least one chronic disease, which can make managing medications a difficult and frustrating process. We are able to package your medications into convenient, easy to use, packs that will help you take medications as prescribed. Our goal at North Star Pharmacy and Infusion is to guide your healthcare in the right direction.

How do the “packs” work?

These packages, put pills into different blisterss depending on which pills patients should take together and the time of day at which they should be taken. The blisters work to improve adherence on their own but can be even better when combined with medication therapy management sessions.

Patient education is important?

Better patient education can improve medication adherence, treatment protocol adherence, and increased patient participation. Many pharmacists, including Scot at Northstar, can use their time with patients to check in on their chronic conditions. He can ask an asthma patient about their control of the disease, or how often they use the rescue inhaler. If he senses that something is off with the patient report, the pharmacist can communicate with the specialist, case manager or primary care physician to adjust the treatment plan.

What does this have to do with LIV Health?

At LIV Health we work with many people; who can often have many medications to keep track of. Our goal is to provide the best patient care, the best services, and the best resources for the people we serve. Northstar Pharmacy is a great resource that we are so lucky to have right in our back yard. Not only are Scot and Amy very friendly and knowledgeable, but the staff at Northstar is also! Their drug adherence packaging is a great tool for our case managers, therapists, and psychologists to know if a patient has been keeping up with their medication. Teamwork makes the dream work!
