You may be asking, “why me?” “What does this mean? And, Where do I go from here? This week for our #featurefriday we are taking a peek at the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center located at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie. Let’s take a look at who they are, and how they can help.

The Team.

The oncology team at Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center is comprised of highly trained individuals who have dedicated their lives and careers to caring for patients with cancer. Twenty years ago, a diagnosis of cancer meant being admitted into the hospital or being sent to a large Cancer Center far from home to get the treatments needed. Today, a cancer diagnosis does not mean a major life disruption, your care can be provided close to home.

The Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center has a caring and compassionate staff that understands your fears. They will help you understand the process and answer any questions you may have. The Cancer Center family, offers extensive support and knowledge to help you and your loved ones cope with and treat cancer.

What types of treatments does the Cancer Center offer?

Radiation Oncology

The Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center offers some of the most sophisticated radiation oncology treatments in the world. The center is founded on the state-of-the-art Clinac Dual-Energy Linear Accelerator. You may be thinking, what does that mean? The Clinac Dual-Energy Linear Accelerator delivers a powerful beam of radiation to treat cancers deep within the body. This multileaf collimator sculpts the high energy beam to fit the dimensions of the tumor being treated. This treatment actually helps spare the healthy cells surrounding the unhealthy ones from exposure to radiation while enabling the radiation beam to be more powerful. Radiation therapy is now faster, safer, and more effective due to computer technology and digital imaging. This larger dose of radiation can actually kill cancerous cells, and tumors, giving patients hope for a cancer-free future.
