Increasing Access to Mental Health Care

Jan 11, 2023

Timely behavioral health care can sometimes be the difference between life and death, sobriety or relapse, and a crisis becoming worse. With the growing demand for mental health care, it can be hard to wait three to six months or longer for a provider to have an opening. The willingness and drive to seek out mental health care may also be short-lived as more and more people push their mental health needs to the back burner.

The time has come for us to rethink how we are delivering mental health treatment. We need more short-term, brief interventions, and immediate access to qualified mental health providers. Solving the mental health crisis doesn’t mean coming up with new medications, it means meeting people where they’re at and no longer trying to fit them into the antiquated systems. It means having easier, more convenient access to care. It means training all of our healthcare providers so they can provide better quality treatment in a shorter period of time. It means listening to the needs of people.
