Climb Wyoming

This week’s #featurefriday features Climb Wyoming, a nonprofit that helps low-income single mothers discover self-sufficiency through career training and placement.
Climb has evolved over the past 35 years into one of the nation’s most successful models for moving families out of poverty. The women Climb serves are often living in crisis: unemployed or working low-wage jobs that don’t provide financial stability, dealing with stress that is toxic for the brain, and struggling to cover basic needs like food and housing.

Stabilizing Families During COVID-19
With the pandemic significantly impacting low-income families, Climb has prioritized helping single mothers in crisis develop tools to calm the chaos of poverty and find stability. These services have included one-on-one work with a mom as she prepares for the Climb program and employment, including:
- Guidance to strengthen executive functioning skills: decision making, problem-solving, prioritizing, and more
- Training on workplace professionalism, interview skills, and resumes
- Mental health services
- Connections to food, housing, and childcare resources
- Support with preparation for work, including access to substance abuse counseling, and dental and vision care

Job Trainings in 2020
Climb’s job training this year has continued with an innovative virtual format that maintains Climb’s therapeutic model of working in groups to learn from and grow with each other. The programs in 2020 have focused on filling essential jobs in healthcare and transportation, and Climb’s graduates are an important part of the state’s workforce solution. 2020 Climb graduates increased their total annual earnings from $681,216 to $2,320,766.
